Lacquered boxes: Palekh, Fedoskino, Mstiora, Kholoui

Our collection of Russian lacquered boxes

Palekh, Fedoskino, Mstiora, Kholoui are, in Russia, the names of the oldest and most famous miniature lacquer warehouses. By their bright colors and the delicacy of their drawings, they are reminiscent of fairy birds who would have taken refuge in a modern house.

Collection lacquered boxes

The originality of Russian lacquered boxes by Fedoskino, Palekh, Mstiora and Kholoui resides, not in materials or manufacturing techniques, but in artistic approaches: drawing, composition, color and understanding of space.

"Original work" - means that the subject painted on the thumbnail is unpublished and that it will remain unique, as long as the artist has not reproduced it on another medium.

"Unique piece" - means that it is not only exceptional work, but also that this miniature will remain uncopiable.

"Author's work" - means that the miniature is reproduced by the artist who imagined it.
It should be noted that in this case, it will not be an exact copy of the original work but that of one of the original. Some small details may change, it is especially characteristic of lacquered miniatures of Kholouï.

"Copy" may mean that it is an original copy made by another artist. Reproduction of a painting is done by copyist painters from an original miniature.

"Handmade papier-mâché" - indicates that the miniature support is hand-made in accordance with the traditional technique and that this process lasted between 2 and 6 months.
