"Palekh"
The village of Palekh is located in the heart of Central Russia, in the Ivanovo region, near the town of Shuya. Palekh was known in Russia during three centuries as one of the most important centers of icon painting.
After the revolution of 1917 , the icon painters began to search a new occupation, which would allow them to use their experience as a painters.
The solution was found thanks to the unusual talent of Ivan Golikov and managerial skills of his brother A. Glazunov. Based on the artistic traditions of ancient Russian painting, Golikov began to paint miniatures. In 1924, seven Palekh masters created the workshop for painters.
